Surgical missions slated

Three surgical missions were lined up for the economically disadvantage Miagaowanons which was scheduled during the celebration of the 293rd Foundation Anniversary and Salakayan Festival '09.

These are: Florida Surgical Missions to be conducted at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo on January 26 to 31, for patients who wish to undergo abdomen and chest surgeries; Canada Surgical Mission still at the WVMC on February 1 to 31 for patients suffering from head, eyes, ears, nose, neck and throat illnesses; and French Surgical Mission at the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal town on February 8 to 28 for the  cleft lip, palate and reconstructive surgeries.

According to Municipal Health Officer Dr. Anthony Montalban, these surgical missions were earlier solicited in their aim to provide free surgeries to patients who could not afford to meet the budgetary requirements of surgical operations and hospitalizations.

Further, he said that the operation is free of charge including the patient's hospitalization, laboratory examination, medicines and doctors fee for the anesthesiologist and surgeons.

"Health program is one of the priority thrusts of my administration.  Hence, we are very much grateful for the effort and support of Miagaowanons here and abroad in bringing laudable projects like this," said municipal mayor Julieta N. Flores.

Meanwhile, Dr. Montalban said interested clients are requested to submit themselves at the Municipal Health Office for proper evaluation and laboratory work-up.
