Salakayan tribe performance to highlight Miagao's founding day

ILOILO CITY, Jan 31 (PIA) -- The performance of Tribu Salakayan, the 2013 Kasadyahan Festival Regional Cultural Competition champion, will highlight the celebration of the 297th Foundation Anniversary of Miagao, Iloilo.

The Grand Parade of the Salakayan Festival will be on February 9, said Edison Molanida, Miagao Municipal tourism officer.

Molanida said the town’s local government unit has laid-out several activities for this event with the theme “Saulugon: Dugong Miagaowanon.” It will officially kick off on Feb. 2 with the opening of the food fair in the town plaza.

“The celebration of the foundation anniversary is slated on February 2-10. The festival’s opening salvo will take place on Feb. 4, simultaneously starting with the Agro-Trade Fair where the town’s agricultural and fishery products will be showcased,” Molanida said.

The Municipal Tourism Officer also said that six tribes will be participating in this year’s Salakayan Tribe Contest namely Tribu Tabun-ak, Tribu Tabuk-Tabuk, Tribu Buklod, Tribu Bantala-an, Tribu Kirayanon and Tribu Salagyawan. These tribes are supported by the different public schools, barangays, associations, and other sectors in the municipality.

“The newly renovated Justice Ramon B. Britanico Hall will be inaugurated in the afternoon of Feb. 10 and in the evening, the festival will be capped with the coronation of the Queen of Miagao” added Molanida. (JCM/LTP/PIA-ILOILO)
