ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines — Residents in the Iloilo towns of Leon, Miag-ao and Tubungan were evacuated after a series of landslides caused by heavy rainfall of Typhoon Mina last week.

"There is still impending danger," said Leo Van Juguan, regional director of Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB 6).

However, Juguan clarified that the order to evacuate came from the local government units (LGUs) and not from MGB 6.

More than 50 families were evacuated in Cawilihan village of Leon town as it is still being considered as high risk for another landslide.

Juguan also emphasized that 68 villages in Leon town are classified in the geo-hazard assessment map as having high susceptibility of landslide.

Other residents that were evacuated came from the Bacolod village in Miag-ao town.

One of the buildings of Bacolod National High School was hit by the landslide and classes are still suspended.
